Auditions for summer production of ‘Baskerville’ coming to Marion Art Center

May 8, 2024

MARION — Bring acting chops to open auditions for a summer production at the Marion Art Center.

Five actors are sought to take on multiple roles in Ken Ludwig’s “Baskerville: A Sherlock Holmes Mystery,” directed by Kate Fishman for nine performances in August.

Open auditions will be held Saturday, May 18 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and Sunday, May 19 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Marion Art Center.

Roles include Sherlock Holmes, Watson and several others both male and female. All roles are gender fluid.

“Baskerville: A Sherlock Holmes Mystery” is “a genius theatrical adventure of humor and horror,” according to a Marion Art Center press release.

“The action is fast paced, as are costume changes, and strong comedic reflexes are encouraged,” the press release said.

Auditions will be cold readings from the script. Rehearsals are typically three times a week and are scheduled in consideration of the actors’ conflicts. Actors must be available for the entire tech week starting July 28 and for all performance dates.

Two non-speaking roles as “stage ninjas” are also being cast. These performers will use performative movement to take the characters from scene to scene including interacting with the scene in-between.
