Rochester town administrator resigns

Apr 29, 2024

ROCHESTER — After a little over two years in the role, Rochester Town Administrator Glenn Cannon has announced his resignation effective Monday, May 13 at the conclusion of Town Meeting.

Cannon, who has served as Rochester’s town administrator since March 2022, is leaving to become Carver’s new town administrator, he said at an April 29 Select Board meeting.

“It’s been a great run here,” Cannon said. “I thoroughly enjoyed my time here. Felt like I learned a lot. Lot of great staff here. I appreciated working with the board.”

The Rochester Select Board named Rochester Finance Director and former town administrator Suzanne Szyndlar as interim town administrator. Szyndlar had served as Rochester’s town administrator immediately prior to Cannon.

Cannon said it’s a “bittersweet moment” as he takes the opportunity in Carver, where he will begin as town administrator May 14.

“I enjoyed my time here in Rochester, and it’s really been great,” he said.

Carver is a larger town, a unique opportunity to grow further professionally, according to Cannon. It’s also a convenient post for Cannon, who lives in South Middleboro.

Particular achievements of Cannon’s tenure in Rochester include completing a feasibility study for a public safety facility and securing funding for a new town salt shed, he said.

Funding for the salt shed was secured through the Massachusetts state budget with the help of Rochester’s state senator Michael Rodrigues, according to Cannon.

Though the salt shed is not yet constructed, Cannon said having funding for the project “has been good for the town” and “is a big moment for Rochester.”

Construction of the shed is expected to begin later this year with the hope its completed by next winter, according to Cannon.
