If so, you’ll want to learn about advanced care for joint pain at the free fall series of “Keeping You in Motion” orthopedic education programs offered by Saint Anne’s Hospital’s Center for Orthopedic Excellence.
You’ll learn about non-surgical care, plus advanced surgical procedures, including MAKOplasty for partial knee resurfacing and total hip replacement and direct anterior approach for total hip replacement. You’ll also learn why Saint Anne’s has earned national recognition for quality, safety and patient satisfaction for joint replacement care.

October 25: “Knee Pain Wearing You Down?” Richard Smith, MD, of PrimaCARE Orthopedics, will explain knee pain due to osteoarthritis and other causes, and highlight the range of remedies to relieve that pain, including MAKOplasty, an advanced robotic-assisted surgical procedure available locally only at Saint Anne’s Hospital. MAKOplasty provides a less painful, less invasive, and more natural-feeling alternative to traditional knee replacement procedures. Light refreshments will be served. Plentiful on-site parking. Location: Venus de Milo, 75 G.A.R. Highway (Route 6), Swansea.
November 2: “Is Knee or Hip Pain Wearing You Down?” If you are looking for information that can help you make choices about how to treat your knee or hip pain, Edward Klein, DO, of Hawthorn Medical Orthopedics will explain the role of osteoarthritis in joint pain and advances in non-surgical and surgical options for total and partial knee replacement and total hip replacement. You can learn about MAKOplasty® robotic-assisted surgery for knee resurfacing and total hip replacement and other alternatives in hip replacement, including direct anterior approach. A light meal will be served. Plentiful on-site parking. Location: Wamsutta Club, 427 County Street, New Bedford.
November 16: “Hip Pain Wearing You Down?” Jerald Katz, MD, of PrimaCARE Orthopedics and chief of orthopedics at Saint Anne’s Hospital, will explain hip pain due to osteoarthritis and other degenerative joint disease, and highlight the range of remedies to relieve that pain, including MAKOplasty, an advanced robotic-assisted surgical procedure available locally only at Saint Anne’s Hospital. You also can “meet” and see a demonstration of MAKOplasty’s unique robotic-arm technology that helps surgeons develop a patient-specific plan to remove the diseased hip bone, preserve healthy bone, and position the total hip implant based on the patient’s unique anatomy. Light refreshments will be served. Location: Nannery Conference Room (Room 134), Clemence Hall, Saint Anne’s Hospital.
