Officials respond to six-acre Mattapoisett brush fire

Mattapoisett — Firefighters from Marion, Mattapoisett, Rochester, Wareham, and Lakeville responded to a six-acre brush fire in Mattapoisett on Saturday, April 14.

The fire broke out along the Mattapoisett/Rochester town line on Wolf Island Road and Long Plain Road, according to reports.

Nearby campers and local residents reported the fire on Saturday afternoon. The five local fire departments responded to the call and were able to put out the perimeter of the fire in 45 minutes, said Mattapoisett Fire Chief Andrew Murray.

It took nearly four hours to subdue the whole fire, Murray said.

There were no injuries and no homes were damaged.

The cause of the fire is under investigation with the Mattapoisett Fire Department.
