Mattapoisett — Falmouth Academy's girls basketball team is having a winning season, partially thanks to Mattapoisett resident Eliza Van Voorhis.

The high school senior has been a force on several sports teams at Falmouth Academy and scored her 1,000th point on the court in a January game against Sturgis East.

Van Voorhis, the daughter of Rachel and Charlie Van Voorhis, celebrated with a brief pause in the game and then kept playing.

The accomplishment is the second big milestone she's had this school year. In the fall, Van Voorhis scored her 107th goal on the soccer field and broke a 20-year-old record.

A three-season athlete (she also plays lacrosse), Van Voorhis' grew up playing sports in the tri-town area and has three siblings who were also active in sports at Falmouth Academy.

Although she enjoys all three of the sports she's played at Falmouth Academy, the 18-year-old plans hopes to walk on in soccer next year at a college TBD.

In the meantime, Van Voorhis still has more basketball to play.

The team ended its regular season with a 20-1 record, and is now seeded number one in Division 4 South. The players will head to their first state tournament game on March 1 against Hull High School.
