Bike safety discussion on agenda at Friends of the Bike Path meeting

Jul 24, 2017

Mattapoisett — Tri-town residents are invited to discuss safety and how progress can be made on biking and pedestrian related issues at a Friends of the Mattapoisett Bike Path meeting on August 8 at 6:30 p.m. at Mattapoisett Free Public Library.

This year a man on a bike who failed to stop at a stop sign was hit by a car July 1 in Wareham, and seriously injured. A few days later a young motorcyclist was killed in Marion.

Greater awareness about the consequences of unsafe riding and driving is needed to lower crash rates for vulnerable road users. What is unsafe? Not having your full attention on the road, not following the rules, and not being prepared to avoid a crash when someone else makes a mistake.
