Dixie Diehards Jazz Concert for ArtWeek @ the Marion Art Center!

Saturday, April 28, 7:30-9:30PM

For their 11th appearance at the Marion Art Center, the Dixie Diehards will focus on the role of America’s mightiest river in the migration of traditional jazz music to all corners of America. The Mississippi served both as transportation—via steamboat—and as inspiration for many a jazz musician.  Our journey will embark from the great city of New Orleans, “the Birthplace of Jazz,”  where jazz could be found all over, from the Garden District, to Milenberg, Bourbon Street, and across the river in Algiers. We’ll continue on to Memphis and sample the famed Memphis Blues, Beale Street Blues and Basin Street Blues.  Finally, we’ll arrive in St. Louis, home of prolific jazz composer W. C. Handy, whose unique style generated a whole new category of jazz.  Following the concert, stick around for a jazz Q & A session with band members!  $15 per person: register at www.marionartcenter.org/artweek
