Mattapoisett — On August 17, detectives from the Mattapoisett Police Department arrested a 20-year-old Fall River man, Omot Okori, who is suspected of multiple car break-ins.

Mattapoisett police received reports of car break-ins on August 16 in the Brandt Island and Harbor Beach area. Multiple items were taken from the vehicles, including laptops, credit cards and sunglasses. The stolen credit cars were used to buy multiple PlayStation 4s from Wal-Mart in Fall River, and additional attempted purchases at the Wal-Mart in Dartmouth.

Dartmouth police found what they believed to be stolen merchandise on the Letgo app.

Detectives from Dartmouth and Mattapoisett arranged to meet Okori to buy the merchandise. At the location, an undercover officer posed as the buyer, and determined that the items for sale were the same as the items purchased with the stolen credit cards. Okori was also in possession of the stolen credit cards and items taken from the car break-ins the day before.

Okori was booked in Mattapoisett and charged with breaking and entering into a vehicle with the intent to commit a felony, larceny of credit cards and larceny over $250.

The investigation is still ongoing, and the police departments remind residents to lock vehicles at all times.
