Mattapoisett — Some children tried out the Mattapoisett Fire Department's fire hose. Others used a fire extinguisher, or had a design painted on their faces. Nearly all wore red plastic fire hats.

The kids were all having a ball, courtesy of the fire department's open house, held on October 12. Amidst all the fun, firefighters gave a live firefighting demonstration, plus a vehicle exploration demonstration.
