The First Congregational Church of Wareham was gathered in 1739 and chartered on December 25 of that year. Following a colonial tradition, the town of Wareham was also chartered at the same time.  The present church is the fifth church erected on this site, the others being victims of time and an occasional fire.

The church today enjoys an active enrollment of 80 members with an average Sunday attendance of 50. There is also an active Church School for children from pre-k to grade six which is run from September thru June and meets during worship time. There are four active church committees served by volunteers; Diaconate, Missions and Outreach, Christian Education, Trustees.

While we retain our Congregational autonomy the church has become a member of the United Church of Christ facilitating a greater national and world outreach serving those in the distant arena of need. All are welcomed at our church. Same gender unions will be performed if requested. Please join us for worship and welcome.  Coffee hour is enjoyed every Sunday immediately following worship service in the Groezinger Room, directly behind the sanctuary.

In addition to the church we have Rowland Thacher Fellowship Hall available for rent for birthday parties, fundraisers, Sweet 16's, dance recitals, shows, graduations, ceremonies, showers and Baptisms. For more information call 508-295-1630.

The Next to New Thrift Shop is located in Fellowship Hall. Come check us out for great deals on clothing and household items. Hours of operation are Thursday 10-2, Friday 10-2, and Saturday 10-2.

The Friendship Breakfast Table is held every Wednesday morning in Fellowship Hall from 7-8:30am.  A free hot breakfast is offered to those in need of a meal and good conversation.  A free will offering is accepted.

Every year in the fall, the Harvest & Holly Fair is held in Fellowship Hall.  This much anticipated community event features crafts, bake sale, jewelry, books,  raffles, a take-out deli, homemade preserves and candy, and our famous luncheon of lobster rolls and clam chowder!  Santa Claus will be on hand to visit with youngsters and pose for pictures.

Rev. Katherine Schofield has been our minister since October 2014.  Regular Sunday services are held at 10am in the sanctuary.  We pride ourselves on being a friendly and welcoming church.  No matter who you are or where you are from, you will receive a warm welcome at the First Congregational Church of Wareham!
