Mattapoisett — One of Mattapoisett's largest developments since construction of the Bay Club is now open for business.

The first phase of Windswept Village, which features two buildings at 7,000 and 16,000 square feet, seven apartments, and commercial space, opened on May 1, following an open house on April 29.

The project, developed by Mattapoisett native, and current Fairhaven resident Todd Rodrigues, initially broke ground in October of 2016. It's been a longstanding plan for Rodrigues, also the owner of neighboring company Yard Boss, who said his original plan for Windswept Village started with a doodle on a paper napkin.

One ground-floor business space has been rented by Edward Jones Investments; another remains available. All of the one-bedroom apartments, and three of the four two-bedroom apartments, have already been leased. Only one two-bedroom is still available for rent, said developer Todd Rodrigues via a social media post on April 30.

The apartments feature washers and dryers, kitchenettes, and what Rodrigues called "strong sound barriers."

The development—Rodrigues' first—sits next to his business, Yard Boss, on Route 6. Rodrigues' goal, he said, was to offer residents luxury-style living at a reasonable price.

In meetings with Mattapoisett's Planning Board in 2017,  Rodrigues touted the idea of a restaurant in the development, but that idea has since been scrapped. Rodrigues cited the possible noise disruption to residents as the reason for scrapping the idea.

Rodrigues said that is open to the idea of further real estate development work, but his first mission is to build Windswept out as much as possible, adding more buildings and residences as demand requires.

Phase two of Windswept, which will complete the remaining building in the development's plans, is expected to be finished early in 2019, although Rodrigues is hoping for an earlier finish date if possible.
