HYANNIS – The Wareham Gatemen (11-6) look to complete a sweep of the home-and-home series against the Hyannis Harbor Hawks (10-5-1) tonight at McKeon Park in Hyannis at 6:00 p.m.

The Gatemen defeated Hyannis last night 4-3 to end the 6-game winning streak for the Harbor Hawks. Easton Lucas was the winning pitcher for Wareham and it was his first of the Cape League season. Lucas pitched 3.1 innings without allowing a run in relief of Ryan Garcia.

Jeremy Ydens was the catalyst for Wareham last night as he responsible for three of the four Gatemen runs. Ydens led off the game with a homer on the first pitch he saw. The following inning, Ydens had a clutch two-out RBI single to plate two runs. Ydens finished the night 2-3 and raised his average to .333.

Hyannis certainly had their chances to come back and win the game, but they left too many men on base. Wareham pitching walked seven and gave up 10 hits, but only allowed three to score. In the end, it was a game Wareham felt fortunate to win.

“That was a strain. It’s why I have gray hairs. I never got to relax and enjoy it,” manager Don Sneddon said postgame.

Today, the Gatemen hope to reverse their road struggles. This year, Wareham is just 3-5 on the road compared to 8-1 at home. The home-road splits for the pitching staff are also quite staggering. At home, Wareham boasts a 2.89 team ERA. On the road, that ERA balloons up to 5.71.

RHP Will Proctor (1-1, 1.86 ERA) is on the bump today for the Gatemen. Proctor made his first start last time out and was dominant over five scoreless innings of work against the Red Sox. Proctor struck out three, allowed three hits, and walked no one in a no decision.

RHP Jordan Fowler (1-0, 6.13 ERA) will oppose Proctor today. Fowler is coming off a win in his last start versus the Orleans Firebirds. In that contest, Fowler pitched five innings allowing three runs on seven hits.
