WAREHAM – The Gatemen (23-16-1) are home tonight as they take on the Hyannis Harbor Hawks (21-15-3) tonight in a battle for first place at 5:30 p.m. at Spillane Field.

The Gatemen and Harbor Hawks are both coming off successful days yesterday as they each clinched a spot in the 2018 CCBL playoffs since the Bourne Braves lost.

Currently, Wareham sits in first place with 47 points and Hyannis is two point back at 45. If the Harbor Hawks win tonight, they will move into a tie for first place with the Gatemen.

On the season, the battle between Wareham and Hyannis has been a tale of three lopsided games and two close ones.

The first times these teams played, Wareham beat Hyannis 9-0 and the time after that, the result flipped as the Harbor Hawks beat the Gatemen 9-1.

The third game, the score was much closer. Hyannis won 4-3 in Wareham and then the very next day Wareham routed Hyannis 17-4 at McKeon Park in Hyannis.

The fifth time these clubs met was the infamous protest game. In the end, Hyannis won that game 6-5.

Currently, Wareham is 3-2 on the season against Hyannis and own a plus 12 run differential against the Harbor Hawks. Should the Gatemen win today, they will have a winning record against the Harbor Hawks and would therefore own the tie break scenario for seeding purposes if the two teams were tied at the end of the regular season.

Today’s game features to be one with a lot of hits as both clubs are hitting .302 against each other this summer.

As for the games last night, the Gatemen defeated the Firebirds 11-2. Tyler Keysor and Ryan Stoudemire combined to pitch the whole game for Wareham and the pair allowed just two total runs on six hits. In terms of the Gatemen offense, everyone got in on the act. Eight of the nine Wareham batters recorded hits and all nine reached base safely. In addition, five of the eight who had hits had one go for extra-bases. The Harbor Hawks are coming off a 9-2 loss yesterday to the Chatham Anglers and have been scuffling at 4-5-1 over their last 10 games. The Harbor Hawks recorded just three hits and made as many errors yesterday. Chatham scored all nine of their runs by the sixth inning as the Anglers cruised to a win.
