Gladiators hockey finishes the week with a win and a tie

Sep 26, 2017

In their second game of the season, the Gladiators Midget White team skated away with a 4-4 tie against the Waves Blue team. The Gladiators roster was a bit depleted that day, so a few players from the Gladiators Midget Blue team pitched in and filled out the team.

One of those players, Quirino doCanto got the ball rolling, scoring on his first shift of the game. Zack Lovendale added his own goal shortly after, tipping in a shot from Seth Tomasik. Tyler Lovendale joined in on the scoring late in the first half.

The Waves team didn't give up easily, tying the game up by the end of the first half. The game went back and forth in the second half—goalie Steven Strachan made numerous saves.

Tyler Lovendale scored his second goal of the game late in the second half, followed by the Wave team scoring once again. Gateway had a final shot to win at the end, but the Wave goalie made an outstanding save.

Meanwhile, the Gladiators Midget Blue team won their second straight game, beating the Wave Blue team 3-0. Quirino doCanto scored in the first period. "Q" as he is known, continued, beating the Wave goalie with a quick shot.

The score remained 1-0 until about ten minutes into the second half when doCanto scored again. The Gladiators kept up the pressure and held strong on defense throughout the second half, finally scoring again with less than two minutes left in the game. The goal was a power play goal by Tyler Lovendale. The defense, anchored by Coleby Paling, was great support for goaltenders Ethan Allegrini and Alex DeMarco. DeMarco made 15 saves while Allegrini made 8.
