Marion — The sun shone down on a perfect day for Marion's annual Town Party on August 26.

Spring Street was closed from the Town House to Sippican School. Chalk drawings of sunshine and rainbows adorned the sidewalk in front of the Town House and Taber Library.

Music could be heard from a few blocks away. In front of the DJ booth, children danced the chicken dance and the hokey pokey.

A tent at the edge of the Town House property offered military baseball caps for sale; the money raised would be donated to the Disabled American Veterans, a national charity formed to aid military veterans.

Cotton candy and popcorn were available; several partygoers dug into the sweet treats while watching children attempt the rock wall.

"It's a great community event," said Marion police chief Lincoln Miller. "Everyone comes out and has a good time."

Proceeds from the Town Party will be split evenly between Marion Recreation and the Marion Firefighters Association, to provide for community needs.
