To the Editor:

The Marion Natural History Museum wishes to thank Bob Field and Freeman Bauer for the awesome trip out to Bob's upwellers to learn about the importance of Oysters as filter feeders in our bay.

We'd also like to thank Jill (Sarge) Simmons, Mattapoisett Harbormaster and the Coast Guard Reserve for allowing us to access Ned's Point Lighthouse, and Sarge and her department for another great last day boat trip to view the various locations we visited during the week from the water.

Finally, thanks go to the Mattapoisett Recreation Department for co-sponsoring the program. We had a wonderful week looking for (and catching!) blue crabs, learning about seaweed, and the importance of these marine organisms as indicators of the health of our bay. We also constructed our own watershed models, and netted many, many animals for close up inspection. We had a terrific group of students, and look forward to running the program again in another year.
