The Old Colony boys' basketball team is celebrating two milestone events— the team won the Mayflower Conference's "Small Vocational" division championship for the second year in a row. This year also marks the team's first win in the league's overall vocational school championship.

Teamwork was a key factor in the championship games. Player Jake Jason said “We not only worked hard but we worked hard together, and togetherness was the main factor in us winning the championship."

Teammate Jeff Bechtold agreed, saying, “I feel like it was a great accomplishment that we were the first team to win a league championship and a vocational championship in the same year. I’m very proud of everyone who contributed for making history.”

The Cougars faces off against South Shore Vocational in the "Small Vocational" division championship, winning 58-42.

From there on, the Cougars were on the hunt for the Mayflower League's overall Vocational Champion title. The team played Westfield Technical Academy in the the championship semifinals, stalking away with a 95-37 victory.

Players didn't have much time to rest, though. The championship game took place the next day, and the opposition was fierce. Blue Hills Regional Technical School, the "Large Vocational" division champions, had a win rate of 80 percent.

The Cougars handed them a loss, though, defeating the Blue Hills Warriors 71-56, to clinch the Vocational Championship.

Winning the Mayflower League's Vocational Championship also meant that the Cougars were qualified to move on to the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) state tournament.

Unfortunately, luck did not favor the team during the state tournament quarterfinals—they lost to Mashpee High, 60-78, ending their quest for the overall state championship.
