Rochester — With nine days until nomination papers are due on Feb. 21, candidate fields are beginning to shape up in Rochester. An unofficial three-way race has broken for a selectmen seat. Meanwhile four people are planning to contest two seats on the town's Planning Board.

Naida Parker's position on the Board of Selectmen expires this year; she has stated that she will not be running for re-election. Seeking her position are Rochester's Emergency Management Director Paul Ciaburri, real estate agent Cathy Mendoza, and Rochester Zoning Board of Appeals member David Arancio. Arancio is the latest to throw his hat in the ring, having taken papers out only last week.

Ciaburri and Mendoza have both returned their nomination papers, making their candidacies for a selectman position official.

The terms of Planning Board members Ben Bailey and John DiMaggio also expire this year; both have taken out papers to return to their seats.

New candidate David Shaw, of the Rochester Cemetery Commission, also pulled papers last week for a Planning Board run. In addition, Bill Milka, the owner of Reliable Excavating, has also taken out papers for the same board.
