Rochester — The Rochester Selectmen announced the resignation of Town Planner Mary Crain at Monday’s meeting.

Crain worked on Mattapoisett's Planning Board, and joined Rochester in January 2014.

Her last day is Oct. 7, after which she will be moving on to a position in another town. The town is currently advertising for the position on its website.

The Selectmen gave Boy Scout Riley Nordahl their blessing to do a community service project at the Rochester Police Department this weekend to complete his Eagle Scout badge.

Nordahl plans to refurbish the memorial there, put in a new bench, fix up the flower beds and do some landscaping.

Sgt. Robert Small was also at the meeting, and expressed the department’s gratitude for the project.

“It’ll be a nice addition, and it’s nice of him to improve on the memorial,” he said. “It’ll look really nice when it gets done.”

Being an Eagle Scout is the highest honor a Boy Scout can achieve, troop leader Mike Blanchard explained.

“You get striped in the military just for being an Eagle Scout,” he said. “He’s really taken the bull by the horns here.”
