"Tea at Marion's Romantic Art Colony" at the Marion Art Center

Courtesy of: Sippican Historical Society The Old Stone Studio in Marion.

The little village of Marion became a magnet for a group of well-known artists, writers, intellectuals, actors, and musicians in the late 19th and early 20th centuries (dubbed the Romantic period by art historians).  They often gathered in the Old Stone Studio, which still stands on Spring Street. Come meet the fascinating members of this art colony from Marion’s “Golden Age.”  After a short theatrical sketch to introduce them, you’ll join the actors in character for tea and conversation.  We’ll talk about what made this art community significant, how it was influenced by national and international events and social movements of its time, and how these influences changed the art world in general.  Sunday, 4/29, 2:00PM-4:00PM.  Admission $5. Register at www.marionartcener.org/artweek.
