Mattapoisett — Things were looking pretty good for the sixth graders of Old Hammondtown School at half-time of the annual "Staff versus Students" basketball game on Friday night.

The score was tied 26-26, with the students going on to take the lead early on in the second half. The score stayed close for much of the game, but the staff began to run away with it late in the second half. With two minutes left, the score was 56-48 in favor of the staff.

Students tried to rally, but the staff ultimately took the game 58-52, with the students sinking one last basket as the buzzer sounded.

The game also acted as a fundraiser. Participants could either donate cash to the Mattapoisett Parent Teacher Association, or donate a canned good for the St. Vincent DePaul food pantry.
