Marion — The Marion Fire Department extinguished a fire in a trailer carrying chemicals on I-195 Thursday night.

The fire was reported around 7:38 p.m.

The trailer involved was 16 feet long and and towed by a pickup truck. According to a press release, the driver stated that he was on his way to Walmart in Dartmouth to work overnight.

The fire was contained by the Marion Fire Department about 15 minutes after arrival.

There were no injuries on the scene.

Initial calls to the fire department indicated that the trailer contained propane and other chemicals. A Hazardous Materials Assessment Team was requested from the state Department of Fire Services to determine what chemicals were stored in the trailer.

The Hazardous Materials Assessment team was able to determine that containers of laminate glue weren't breached by the fire. A 50-pound propane tank was removed from the trailer without breaking, but several smaller propane cylinders did rupture in the fire.

The Marion Fire Department was assisted on scene by the Marion Police Department, the Department of Fire Services' Hazardous Materials Assessment Team, Massachusetts State Police and the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection.
