MATTAPOISETT — The Old Rochester Regional School District received an award for music education.

The school district was recognized as a Best Community for Music Education by the National Association of Music Merchants Foundation.

The recognition is awarded to school districts “that demonstrate outstanding efforts to provide music access and education to all students,” according to an Old Rochester Regional press release.

It is the third time Old Rochester Regional has been recognized by the foundation. Old Rochester Regional was among 23 school districts across Massachusetts that were recognized in 2024.

“This award is a tribute to the dedication of our music educators, the unwavering support of our administration and families, and most importantly, the passion and talent of our student musicians,” Old Rochester Regional Junior High School general music and band teacher Richard Laprise said.

In order to qualify for the designation, school districts answered questions about funding, commitment to the music program, graduation requirements, staffing and access to music instruction.
