Marion — Within five minutes of arriving at a mysterious dinner party, Claude Pichon is nearly doubting his own sanity. "What a pompous man!" he says near the beginning the Marion Art Center's summer production.

Claude, played by Mattapoisett veterinarian Jay Gould, has, within minutes, had all he can take of fellow party guest Andre, played by Scott Fishman.

Just as Claude refers to Andre with an unprintable epithet, Andre pokes his head back in the door and says smugly, "In the right suit, nobody notices."

So begins the Marion Art Center's production of "The Dinner Party," a play originally written by Neil Simon. In the play, three divorced couples unknowingly show up to the same dinner party, ostensibly arranged by the divorce lawyer that the three men all made use of.

Andre and his ex-wife Yvonne (Cynthia Latham), Claude and ex-wife Mariette (Kristen Meiggs) and Albert and twice(!)-ex-wife Gabrielle (Suzie Kokkins) all have the chance to sort out their lives, and face the possibilities of reconciliation.

The play is directed by Kate Fishman.

"The Dinner Party" opens on Friday, August 11 at 7:30 p.m., with additional performances on Saturday, August 12; Thursday, August 17; Friday, August 18 and Saturday, August 19.

Tickets are available at a cost of $15 for MAC members and $18 for non-members. While reservations and holds cannot be accommodated, ticket purchases may be made both in person and by calling the Marion Art Center at 508-748-1266 during regular gallery hours (Tuesday through Friday from 1 to 5 p.m.and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.). General seating and cabaret seating (for parties of 4) are available on a first come, first served basis.
